TCBJ: Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
Aida: I grew up in a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina that is called Travnik, which is also where I currently reside.
TCBJ: What is one thing that most people would be surprised to know about you?
Aida: I am actually a hairdresser for more than 30 years, and that is something that most of my buyers don't know. In fact, I think you're the only person I have told you this to. :)
TCBJ: Describe yourself using 4 words.
Aida: Creative, collaborative, simple and original.
TCBJ: How would you define yourself?
Aida: Artist in every sense of that word.
TCBJ: How do you define your personal style?
Aida: Authentic, original and unique - it is very recognizable.
TCBJ: Which people do you admire, or who inspires you?
Aida: I do not have any role models or something like that, the thing that gives me power is my family.
TCBJ: What are you inspired by, or what motivates you?
Aida: I am inspired by nature - all the way! I use natural thread to make my jewelry, and most of my motives are made in a natural fashion. Leaves, flowers, animals, bugs, they all inspire me very much, and are very common in my jewelry.
TCBJ: How did you get into your designing jewelry?
Aida: My daughter wanted to wear jewelry like this, but she could not find it here in Bosnia, so I looked up for some tutorials on the internet, and that's how I made my first pieces. I think it was around 2010 when I started doing this.
TCBJ: How would you describe your jewelry design aesthetic or design process?
Aida: I use a technique called macrame, which is based on knotting hundreds of small knots to each other. I use a thick waxed thread for knotting, some metal or plastic beads, usually combined with some kind of gemstone.
TCBJ: Imagine that you were featured on the cover of an international magazine in the year 2020, what would the title of your feature article say or be about?
Aida: I think it would be something about how I started a serious business from my hobby. Something like that for sure.
TCBJ: Where do you see yourself and/or your career in the next 5 years?
Aida: I see it here where I am now. I do this for my own relaxation, as I am a woman who is in ages, I don't see me pursuing this too far. I am happy with how the things are currently working out.
TCBJ: What is your favorite quote or what is a statement/mantra you try to live by?
Aida:"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls" - Napoleon Bonaparte
